That's why I wanted to be sure to visit the Progress Avenue GIANT in Pottsville, the largest town in the southern part of the Coal Region. The 29,000 square foot store isn't even that old, dating back only to 1983, but it was the oldest operating un-renovated GIANT when I visited. It closed shortly after my visit, in 2020. These days, it's been turned into a facility for a local college. You enter and turn left to walk through the produce department on the front wall. The grocery aisles are on the other side of the case to the right above. Frozen and dairy are on the far right side of the store, with meat on the back wall.
