Original Grocery Tenant: Kinsley's Market Address: 1471 US-209, Brodheadsville, PA Opened:  1990s Closed:  1998 Later Tenants:  Kinsley's ShopRite (1998-2012) Photographed:  December 22, 2018 Kinsley's Market was a longtime supermarket in the small town of Broadheadsville, PA (population 1700), dating back to the 1950s around the area. Check out this history from the Pocono Record. By the 1990s, this 50,000 square foot barn-themed market was constructed, joining the Wakefern co-op in 1998 and becoming a ShopRite. The store closed in 2012 when a massive 95,000 square foot store was constructed just around the corner from this one. Here's a look at the store before it closed. Josh says there the store became a ShopRite in 2001, but Wakefern itself says that the store joined in 1998. These days the store is an outdoors/sports supply store. A 70,000 square foot Weis is also directly across the street from this store, a relatively new construction having opened as a ...

TOUR: ShopRite - Stroudsburg, PA

ShopRite of Stroudsburg Owner: Robert Sumas / Village Super Market Opened:  2019 Previous Tenants:  Bon-Ton Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp. Location:  344 Stroud Mall Rd, Stroudsburg, PA Photographed:  November 29, 2019 Welcome to the largest Village Super Market-owned ShopRite! At nearly 88,000 square feet, this massive former Bon-Ton department store was transformed in 2019 into the new ShopRite of Stroudsburg. We saw the old store a few days ago, and the difference is amazing.  The space has been completely transformed inside and out (see the "before" and some more history on the space here ), and now has entrances on the corner facing away from the indoor mall. As we'll see, there's also access to and from the store from the indoor mall. When we enter on the corner, we turn right to enter the grand aisle which runs along the front of the store. Produce is in the front part of the grand aisle, with bakery, seafood, beer/wine, and the barbecue counter...

Snapshot: Weis Markets - Stroudsburg, PA

Weis Markets Opened: 2008 Previous Tenants:  ACME Markets (closed by 1980s) > King's IGA (late 1980s-mid 1990s) > Mr. Z's (mid 1990s-2008) Location:  1070 N 9th St, Stroudsburg, PA Photographed:  November 29, 2019 This Stroudsburg Weis looks like a pretty modern store, but it actually goes back as far as the 1950s or so when it was built as an ACME. It later became a King's IGA and then, when Weis purchased both King's and Mr. Z's (two IGA operators in eastern Pennsylvania), the store was converted to Mr. Z's, a banner it kept until 2008. The store has, of course, been renovated and expanded, probably several times, and is now around 52,000 square feet. Weis used to be all alone out here to the west of Stroudsburg, with just a small ALDI not far away, but in 2019 the Stroudsburg ShopRite moved into the Stroud Mall just a quarter mile west. That's tomorrow's tour, so come back to check it out!
