This store, in the Botany Village area, has had a lot of brands in its day, starting with A&P in the 1970s. By the 1990s, it had become a Met Foodmarket, beginning its parade of independent supermarkets. By the end of that decade, it had become a Pioneer, then by the early 00s became Super Exito. Super Exito actually stayed in place all the way until 2023, when the store underwent a significant remodel and rebranded as CTown under Krasdale Foods. Super Exito Supermarket Owner: Jay Patel Opened:  2007 Cooperative:  Krasdale Foods Location:  218 Dayton Ave, Clifton, NJ Photographed:  January 5, 2023 After many years we're returning to the Super Exito Supermarket at Botany Village in Clifton, NJ! We saw the store back in 2018 looking cramped, cluttered, random, and chock-full of personality. It's been fairly extensively renovated, and is feeling much more spacious but has also clearly lost a lot of personality (which I might gripe about, but who cares) but -- it felt like -- a lot of selection. The outside hasn't changed at all, which is odd since the logo seen here on this storefront is not the latest Exito logo. I guess it doesn't matter all that much, though, since the store uses the CTown circular and in fact it doesn't say Exito anywhere on the circular -- or on the inside of the store, for that matter. We're starting off with three SuperFresh stores today! Belleville Beginning with our friend Super Food Fresh World, I mean Super World Food Fresh, I mean Fresh World Super Food, I mean SuperFresh Food World in Belleville. Just a quick look after our last stop by in January for daytime exterior pictures. As I mentioned in January, looking very good except for the stupid logo. Anyway... No construction at all, as far as I could tell. SuperFresh Owner:  Enrique Abinader Opened:  2019 Previous Tenants:  Pathmark > Ideal Marketplace Cooperative:  Key Food Stores Location:  85 Ackerman Ave, Clifton, NJ Photographed:  June 2020 We've returned to Botany Plaza for a Look Inside this SuperFresh, which opened in summer of 2019 as a conversion from an Ideal Marketplace . We'll see that, although the store still seems to be a popular shopping choice, some things have been scaled back while others have been expanded. Produce is still an extremely strong point of the store, with a large selection and still a very large organic department. (Many stores will start with a large organic selection, then find that it doesn't sell as fast as it would need to, then cut the department smaller or remove it entirely. Back in May 2017, we saw a tour of the Ideal Marketplace in half of a former Pathmark in the Botany Village section in Clifton. In New Jersey. In the United States. In North America. Get the picture? We're heading back to that area again, this time to check out a neighborhood fixture, the Super Exito Supermarket in the Botany Village plaza. It was actually raining pretty hard the day I visited. Ah, the sacrifices I make for the blog... This store is an interesting situation. The name is in Spanish, and the music was Latin music. However, most of the international foods were from Europe, especially eastern Europe. Plus, the owner, Jay Patel, is Indian. I've never seen anything like it! On the other hand, a commercial for one of Exito's other locations pronounces the name "ehks-EE-toe", not "EHKS-ee-toe", as the word for success is pronounced in Spanish, so either the voice actor couldn't speak Spanish, or the name doesn't actually refer ...
