This 13,000 square foot Dumbo Market opened earlier this month in a newly-built mixed-use development in the booming neighborhood. It's the third Dumbo Market location in New York City, joining two Brooklyn locations in Dumbo and Boerum Hill, although the owners also own Urban Market stores in New York City and Hoboken . As I mention on that post, it was initially reported that this store would replace the older Urban Market location diagonally across the street, which is owned by the same family, but both stores seem to be fully functional and here to stay, at least for now. Dumbo Market Opening: TBA Owner:  Mohammed Mujalli Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  Key Food Stores Location:  49-20 5th St, Long Island City, NY Photographed:  July 15, 2025 Development in Long Island City is booming . And with lots of new residents comes the need for new businesses, including supermarkets. At the corner of 5th Street and 49th Avenue, a new mixed-use building under construction is preparing to have a new supermarket on the ground floor owned by Dumbo Market . Dumbo Market has a store each in Dumbo  (opened 2019) and Cobble Hill  (opened 2022), and also owns Urban Market locations in Hoboken  (opened 2025), Park Slope  (opened 2022), and here in Long Island City. The existing LIC Urban Market is just 8000 square feet, and the new space will be over 13,000. H Mart Opened: late 2022 Previous Tenants:  Foodtown > Edwards > Stop & Shop Location:  34-51 48th St, Long Island City, Queens, NY Photographed:  January 11, 2023 Have you toured the Long Island City Stop & Shop yet? That Stop & Shop closed in September 2022 and, by the end of the following month, the store had become a location of Lyndhurst, NJ-based H Mart, a Korean supermarket chain. H Mart did relatively little to the 57,000 square foot space before opening, with most of the work being light cosmetic (painting the walls and hanging a few new signs), and merchandising, since of course H Mart's product mix is going to be rather different from Stop & Shop's. I believe this is now the largest H Mart in New York City, though of course not the largest overall (you barely need to get 10 miles outside of New York City to find a 75,000 square foot H Mart ).
