Widdis Food Market Opened:  summer 2026 Owner: Shady Widdi Previous Tenants: Mignosi's Supermarket (1990s-2022) > Ideal Fresh Market (2022-2026) Cooperative: Allegiance Retail Services Location: 1006 Rossville Ave, Staten Island, NY Photographed: September 4, 2026 We find ourselves back in Rossville, out on Staten Island, to check in on an independent supermarket that's had quite a bit happen in the last few years. This was a Mignosi's Supermarket -- part of a local Staten Island chain -- back in the 1990s through 2022 (though the Mignosis sold it to new owners in the mid-00s). In 2022, new owners took over and swapped the Mignosi's name for Ideal Fresh Market, and I wrote extensively about that transition here . Now, it's been sold again, and despite having just had its official grand opening as Ideal in the summer of 2025, extensive renovations are again underway. They're already done (or close to it) on the outside, with a new facade and new logo up. ...

Pathmark Daily Opened: August 2026 Owner: Christopher Sanchez Previous Tenants:  Key Food (2011-ca. 2016) > Shop Fair (ca. 2017-2026) Cooperative: Allegiance Retail Location: 340 Pennsylvania Ave, Brooklyn, NY Photographed: September 4, 2026 It's Pathmark time -- again! When Pathmark went out of business in 2015, the brand was acquired by Allegiance Retail (the cooperative behind Foodtown), with the relaunch starting in 2019 at a Brooklyn location . Earlier this year, Allegiance debuted a second Pathmark -- a small-format one under the Pathmark Daily brand on Long Island. Now, a third one has entered the picture, this one also a Pathmark Daily in East New York, Brooklyn. This one has opened with virtually no fanfare, and that may be because it's still in transition. Let's back up a bit here to review this store's history. It was built from the ground up in 2011 as a Key Food of just under 18,000 square feet. For reasons I'm not quite sure of, Key Food only ...

Foodtown Opened: July 2026 Owner: Abed and/or Elayyan families Previous Tenants: Rite Aid Cooperative: Allegiance Retail Location: 6900 9th Ave, Brooklyn, NY Photographed: July 15, 2026 A new Foodtown! Even though the Allegiance Retail cooperative doesn't seem to be in the greatest shape lately (you can read more of my musings here , if you're so inclined), they've still had a couple of notable store openings lately. That includes those two in Philadelphia but also a couple of Foodtown locations in New York. Most recently, Brooklyn Harvest Markets has opened a Foodtown in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. This 9,000 square foot supermarket was previously a Rite Aid and underwent an extensive renovation to transform it into a Foodtown affiliated with Brooklyn Harvest Markets (which also has a location in Bay Ridge, formerly The Food Emporium ).
