TOUR: Peck's Market - Jeffersonville, NY

Peck's Market Owner: Lee Reimer Opened:  unknown Cooperative:  IGA Location:  4897 NY-52, Jeffersonville, NY Photographed:  February 3, 2021 It's time for our last Peck's Market in this region! (We, unfortunately, are not going to be touring Livingston Manor .) This store is slightly larger than Eldred , Narrowsburg , and Callicoon , at just under 20,000 square feet. Like the others, though, it's been expanded almost too many times to count, most recently around 2005. The building, though, dates back to at least the 1960s or early 1950s. We enter on the far left side of the store to the deli and bakery in one of the expansion rooms. Dairy and meat are on the back wall, with frozen on the far right side. As we can see, the flooring is pretty new in the deli room, which is kind of separated in one of the expansions. The main supermarket building begins to the right of this, with produce in the first aisle. As we see, there's a somewhat retro decor package here with a...

TOUR: Peck's Market - Callicoon, NY

Peck's Market Owner: Lee Reimer Opened:  1974 Cooperative:  IGA Location:  9 Lower Main St, Callicoon, NY Photographed:  February 3, 2021 Moving right along, we're here in the tiny town of Callicoon, NY! The hamlet has a population of just 200 and a tiny downtown on Lower Main Street, across the train tracks from Upper Main Street. The 17,000 square foot store is built around a 9600 square foot barrel-roof building which dates back to at least around 1960, if not before. Peck's has been here since 1974. The store is an intriguing mixture of old and new, but it's definitely a well-maintained and slightly upscale supermarket. We enter to deli and bakery near the entrance, with meat in the first aisle. Produce is on the back wall of the store, with dairy and frozen in the last aisle. Notice below, the old-fashioned Peck's Markets signage that seems not unlike what we saw yesterday in Pete's . This store's decor package seems to be a retro-style decor package, ...

TOUR: Pete's Market - Narrowsburg, NY

Pete's Market Owner: Praful Desai Opened:  2014 under current ownership; unknown previously Cooperative:  IGA Location:  120 Kirks Rd, Narrowsburg, NY Photographed:  February 3, 2021 Welcome to Narrowsburg! I mentioned yesterday a bit of this store's history, but to recap, the store was built around the 1970s, but I'm not sure who occupied the space for the store's first few decades of life. By 2012, the store was a Peck's Market, affiliated with IGA. But by 2014, the store and its property was sold , and the store became Pete's Market that year. We enter to find the deli and bakery in the front right corner. Produce is in the first aisle, with meat on the back wall, and frozen and dairy on the left side in the last aisle. The 15,000 square foot store is the only supermarket in the area -- you'd otherwise have to travel 10 miles south to Peck's in Eldred (linked above), 10 miles west to Honesdale (see here , here , and here ), or 10 miles north to Call...

TOUR: Peck's Market - Eldred, NY

Peck's Market Owner: Lee Reimer Opened:  unknown Cooperative:  IGA Location:  9 Proctor Rd, Eldred, NY Photographed:  February 3, 2021 Eldred, New York is probably not a town you've ever heard of. We're around 16 miles northwest of Port Jervis, 42 miles east of Scranton, and 43 miles west of Newburgh. And in this region, there are very few large towns, and very, very few supermarkets. Several of the supermarkets in this area, though, are part of the Peck's Market chain, which is affiliated with IGA. I don't have much information on the history of the roughly 14,000 square foot building, but it was built before 1966 and expanded to its present size between 1995 and 2004 -- much later than I thought. Now here's where the history gets interesting. The original building was just 6,000 square feet, and only on the right side of the building (the expansion was out the left side, if we look at my exterior picture). That tiny space has a facade that strongly resembles ...
