What an unusual store! The only grocer here in Fairfax is this unique market, which really looks like it is located in a converted church. The interesting thing is that I don't honestly know if it is or not. Historic street views show the building under construction in 2009. I don't know if that's when the store was built from scratch or simply extensively renovated, but it looks like that followed a big fire the previous year.
The store is a small but full supermarket, with the registers up at the front. Produce and dairy line the first aisle on the right side of the store, with meat and deli at the back. Grocery aisles, beer/wine, and frozen foods are on the left side of the store.
As we've seen with so many of these small-town stores, this one has an abundant selection of locally made products, though the selection of local fruits and vegetables is somewhat limited because the store is small overall -- about 5200 square feet.
Unlike so many of these other stores, this store isn't a member of Associated Grocers of New England as far as I can tell. I think it's supplied by C&S, but I'm not sure.
I don't know if this is a converted church building or a newly built store, but regardless it's fun and unusual. And this is a similar store to two others in this region -- we'll check those out next week. In the meantime, happy Halloween!
