Hannaford
Opened: 2001
Owner: Ahold Delhaize
Just around the corner from a Price Chopper-turned-Market 32 here in Morrisville is this Hannaford. It's just a hair smaller than the Market 32 at around 50,000 square feet, and you might be able to tell just from looking at the outside that this is a somewhat unusual Hannaford exterior. That's because the store was built by Grand Union, not Hannaford, in their final years in business -- around the mid-1990s. In 2001, Hannaford took this store over.Previous Tenants: Grand Union (ca. mid-1990s-2001)
Cooperative: none
Location: 80 Fairground Plz, Morrisville, VT
Photographed: August 13, 2025
Grand Union has had a longer presence in Morrisville than just since the mid-1990s, though. In fact, their previous location was just across the street from what's now the Hannaford.
Original Grocery Tenant: Grand Union
Address: 35 Northgate Ave, Morrisville, VT
Opened: before 1981
Closed: ca. mid-1990s
Later Tenants: assorted non-grocery tenants
Photographed: August 13, 2025
It's been subdivided, but the original Grand Union here was about 26,000 square feet, or just about half the size of the newer store. Tomorrow, we continue our trek west and will stop in the small town of Johnson just west of here!
