Another grocery store not just supplied by, but owned by, Associated Grocers Northeast (formerly Associated Grocers of New England, and recently rebranded) is the Stowe Village Market. As you've probably gathered, many of their Vermont stores are simply named Village Market with the town's name. This was part of a local chain called Mac's Market, which in 2023 went out of business and sold their remaining three stores to AGNE, including this one.
It's just under 10,000 square feet and is right on the main street through Stowe. It's called Main Street, but it's also Vermont Route 100, which is kind of a corridor through this resort area. The year-round population here in Stowe is around 5200, but it's a large enough town to support two full supermarkets. We'll tour the other tomorrow.
You enter in the front-left corner and walk in front of the registers to produce in the front-right corner. Dairy lines the rest of the first aisle, with meat and deli on the back wall (no bakery here). Frozen and beer/wine are on the left side.
AGNE primarily uses Topco's Food Club and Full Circle (organic/natural) storebrands, but also has a line of Cadia products from KeHE, a natural and specialty distributor. Here you can see an endcap of just Cadia products.
And while this is definitely an older supermarket, you can tell it's in good shape. The refrigeration all looks quite new or refurbished at least, and it looks like AGNE did that right after taking over the store. You can see older fixtures in pictures online of Mac's. It doesn't look like AGNE did much else, other than maybe a small refresh.
Stowe also has Shaw's General Store (in addition to a Shaw's supermarket, no relation) which at one time was an IGA but now is more of a gift shop and doesn't sell food anymore.
And Shaw's -- the supermarket, that is -- is tomorrow's stop here on The Market Report! Come back to check it out.
