I myself have been very busy, so I've been behind in both visiting new stores and posting about them. (Don't worry, no interruptions to the regularly scheduled programming .) So now I'm trying to catch up -- but I'm sitting on more than a dozen newsworthy stores that I've been to but haven't posted about yet. Let's start to fix that with this weekend's NYC posts! You may recall this closed East Village Rite Aid, which hadn't yet gotten a brand when I posted about it back in December . Turns out, it's a Metro Acres Market -- one of only three under the brand, joining locations on the Lower East Side and in Schuylerville (there was previously another in Washington Heights that became a Fine Fare )....

It's only about 5500 square feet at ground level -- I assume there's a basement -- but even after Rite Aid has closed here, it isn't slated to be demolished for a multi-story mixed use development. Instead, a supermarket is moving into the space. In fact, it looks like the space was previously a supermarket, too. Commenters on local blog EV Grieve mention that it had been an A&P and then a Met Foods. That post also has slightly more updated pictures than mine. The most anticipated and celebrated grocery grand opening in several years, here in New York City. The story first broke in 2021 that a grocer had signed a lease for the Astor Plaza Kmart, taking up just under 90,000 square feet of space on two floors. The 87,000 square foot store opened its doors to the public today, at 9AM, to enormous crowds . You can see my pre-opening coverage here . I visited the store around 2:00 to find it still packed, with an unbelievable number of Wegmans managers, employees, and all-around representatives around the store.
