Location:  1306 Centennial Ave, Piscataway, NJ Photographed:  July 2020 Our final store in our Edison and Piscataway group is the 63,000 square foot Saker ShopRite of Piscataway. It's just diagonally across the street from the last two stores we saw, Asian Food Markets and ALDI . This is the largest supermarket in this immediate area, with a 66,000 square foot Stop & Shop (former Edwards) about three quarters of a mile to the north. Unfortunately, we won't be getting a chance to see that store but you can see a nearly identical one over in Edison here . The ShopRite, located in the corner of a smaller strip mall, is easily the most attractive supermarket and complex here in Piscataway. The buildings are a much more attractive brick, with tree-lined rows of parking instead of just a big open lot like Centennial Squar...

ALDI Opened: unknown Previous Tenants:  none Location:  1326 Centennial Ave, Piscataway, NJ Photographed:  July 2020 Our look at Centennial Square includes a tour of the Asian Food Markets in the main strip and a tour here at the ALDI in the outparcel! (Plus don't forget the ShopRite across the street.) At 19,000 square feet, it's slightly smaller than the Asian Food Markets but a very different store. In fact, I doubt there's much overlap between the two stores' offerings, which is why they can coexist in the same strip mall. While ALDI stores are mainly identical (and therefore mostly uninteresting to me), this one does have a slightly different facade. It almost looks like a movie theater to me, but unfortunately, I can't find anything on the history of this store. I'd assume that the store was indeed built as an ALDI with the standard layout but in the architectural style of the rest of the mall, although honestly the mall is just a hodgepodge of designs ...

H Mart President: Stacey Kwan Opened:  ca. 2009 Previous Tenants:  W.T. Grant > National Wholesale Liquidators Location:  1761 Lincoln Hwy, Edison, NJ Photographed:  July 2020 Our next stop in Edison is the H Mart! The sprawling, 75,000 square foot store is clearly the top-tier Asian supermarket in Edison (although we've previously seen Lotte Plaza , Kam Man , and 99 Ranch ) -- as H Mart tends to be the nicest and largest Asian supermarket in the markets they're in. By the way, there was previously an ACME at the other end of this mall until 1992, but the extensive facade renovations done around 2009 when H Mart moved in disguise the former supermarket .
