(The first, in Paramus , opened in 2019.) The Guinness World Record holder for the world's largest dairy store has impressively transformed the 54,000 square foot former ACME, later Seasons , a kosher supermarket, at Styertowne Center. The finishing touches were still being put on the building's silo -- visible from nearby route 3, an east-west artery and approach to the Lincoln Tunnel -- when I visited a few days after the store opened. There were a few other details to work out following the store's opening, such as a few signs around the property that still advertised Seasons Supermarket. But Seasons is gone from here, so let's see what Stew Leonard's has ...

Rumors suggested it wouldn't actually close until mid-June but by late May it was empty and locked up. So unfortunately we will only get the outside pictures and a brief look in through the windows. The store opened in 2016 in a former ACME that was a bit over 10 years old at the time of its closure. The 55,000 square foot store was turned into one of the larger kosher supermarkets in the area. While Seasons says they lost their lease (which is true; this will soon be home to New Jersey's second Stew Leonard's), I think the real story is not that simple. Seasons Supermarkets, a troubled Brooklyn-based Kosher supermarket chain emerged from bankruptcy  under a new owner in early 2019, and part of the turnaround effort was a new 12,000 square foot location in Scarsdale, NY, replacing a former Gristedes. Located in the back corner of a strip mall that's already hard to see from the road, this store's location may prove to be a tough challenge to overcome as the store was deserted at the time of my visit. It does seem to be the only Kosher supermarket in the area, though it's also a traffic light away from a Balducci's that we'll be touring tomorrow. I think it's pretty fair to assume there's nothing left from Gristedes inside. You enter and turn right along the front wall to enter the produce department in the front right corner, with bakery continuing along the rest of the right side wall.
