And it's true that most of New Hampshire's grocery stores are pretty straightforward. But Nashua and its surroundings have a significant Indian American community, and so businesses catering to that community have popped up too. Patel Brothers is one of the latest additions, opening their first and only New Hampshire location here in 2021. This former JC Penney Home Store is around 25,000 square feet, and the produce department takes up a large part of the store at the front. It's oriented with the first aisle here running along the front wall of the store and the registers along the left-side wall. Patel Brothers Opened: June 30, 2026 Owner: Swetal & Rakesh Patel Previous Tenants: ShopRite (1988-2024) Cooperative: none Location:  1306 Centennial Ave, Piscataway, NJ Photographed: August 5, 2026 In 2024, the ShopRite in Piscataway moved into a new location in South Plainfield . The 63,000 square foot space was subdivided, with about 30,000 square feet being dedicated to a brand-new Patel Brothers. It's a logical new tenant, as the Indian American community of this part of Central Jersey is growing rapidly. And although there's a lot of retail right in this area of Piscataway, there are no Indian supermarkets right here (there's a Subzi Mandi in the southern part of town). Patel Brothers very extensively renovated the left side of the former ShopRite into a brand-new, stylish Indian supermarket. Produce is on the right side with dairy on the back wall and frozen in the last aisle on the left side. In the front-left corner, there's a bakery and kitchen area...

I'm going to try to catch up on news posts I still need to do during this break, so stay tuned. We return to the Shrewsbury Patel Brothers for a quick update! The store has undergone an expansion and a small renovation, bringing it from around 14,000 square feet to a bit over 20,000. That's in advance of the massive former Stop & Shop across the street becoming a super-sized Apna Bazar , which I'm sure is on Patel Brothers' mind. One other minor change: they've dropped the "Farmers Market" from the name here, and that appears to be because Patel Brothers uses the Farmers Market brand for smaller locations.
