This is one of three stores we're revisiting, two of which are in New York City. The Gates Avenue Food Bazaar is in Ridgewood, Queens, but just actually about two and a half blocks from the Wyckoff Avenue Food Bazaar in Bushwick, Brooklyn, as we're right at the borough line here. Gates appears to have been built as a Bohack, which was in business through at least 1976. I don't know what came here after Bohack, but in 2001, it became a Food Dimensions (owned by Food Bazaar), which switched to Food Bazaar in 2011. City Fresh Market Opened: January 2025 Owner:  A&E Supermarket Group Previous Tenants:  Rite Aid Cooperative:  Retail Grocers Group Location:  583 Grandview Ave, Ridgewood, Queens, NY Photographed:  April 7, 2025 At this point, I've posted too many drugstore-to-supermarket conversions to count. They're all interesting to see, and honestly, a lot of them have turned into really great, unique supermarkets. It's fascinating to see how each operator responds to what that area is looking for. Sometimes it's Mexican foods and fresh-made tortillas . Sometimes it's South Asian groceries . I've enjoyed seeing what each supermarket has done to the respective Rite Aids and Walgreens and CVSs . Here in Ridgewood, Queens -- right on the border of Queens and Brooklyn -- City Fresh Market has opened their latest location in an extensively-renovated former Rite Aid. A lot, as usual. Here's a roundup of what they're doing: They're preparing to take over a Stop & Shop in Bridgeport, CT, which will be their third location in Bridgeport (see here ) Renovations are being wrapped up at the Junius Street Food Bazaar in Brownsville, Brooklyn The store at 34-20 Junction Blvd in Jackson Heights has closed as it is demolished and rebuilt, following a renovation and expansion (and the addition of a parking lot!) at the 35-60 Junction Blvd location two blocks south The 57th Avenue store -- their original, opened in 1988 -- is also preparing to be demolished and rebuilt And that's only what's happening at the stores I haven't been ...
