Snapshot: Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op - Roanoke, VA

Heading into downtown Roanoke for our last two stops on the Virginia tour. Roanoke is a great city with plenty of interesting things to do. If you happen to visit, I'd highly recommend the Taubman Museum of Art , which is an art museum in an architecturally interesting building. General admission is free, which is very nice; one of their corporate sponsors is Kroger. The Virginia Museum of Transportation is also a must-see for any road or rail fans out there. Anyway, enough about the real world! Let's see the supermarkets! The Roanoke Downtown Co-Op is a natural foods store that's actually part of the same organization as Weaver Street Market, which we toured back in June of 2018. As you can see, it's part of a very attractive outdoor pedestrian mall. The store is located at 1 Market Sq SE, R...

Look Inside: Ridgefield Market - Ridgefield, NJ

(kind of a look inside) Taking a quick detour from the Hudson County group of stores to look at this former grocery store in Ridgefield, NJ, in Bergen County. Awfully popular for a closed store. Actually, there's a restaurant right next door that probably uses this lot now that the store is closed. So before we look inside (through the windows, that is), let's look into some history here. This store was built ca. 1960 (between 1954 and 1966 according to Historic Aerials) and was, at some point in its existence, a Co-Op Food Store (about which I have no information). It's possible that it was built as another chain and taken over by Co-Op. By 2000, it had become an Associated Supermarket. Check out the interior in 2007 on Groceteria here .
