Concord is home to the New Hampshire state capital -- and a seriously old-fashioned Market Basket. It's also had its own food co-op since 1982, which moved into the current location on Main Street in 1993. The supermarket then got a major remodel inside and outside around 2015. It's around 9,000 square feet, making it about half the size of the Market Basket a couple blocks away.
Like many food co-ops in New England, this one focuses on natural and specialty foods, so it complements Market Basket more than competing with it. Produce is on the left side of the store in the first aisle, with bulk foods at the back of the first aisle. A large deli-bakery area along with cheese, prepared foods, and sushi take up the whole back wall. Dairy, frozen, and a small meat department are in the last aisle on the right side.
When I visited this store, it was very busy (not sure whether these pictures quite capture that). A big draw was the kitchen area, given that I was here around lunchtime. In addition to the premade hot food and salad, there's a menu of food made to order like sandwiches and paninis. There's also a sushi counter. This store felt vibrant and well-used, and the selection was both complete and interesting.
As a member of National Co-op Grocers, this store sells Field Day storebrand products from UNFI.
There's a cafe seating area in front of the registers up at the front of the store. This brings us to the end of Concord (my coverage of New Hampshire, like Maine, is not particularly complete, so we're jumping around a lot) and now The Market Report heads up to the small city of Laconia!
