TOUR: Weis Markets - Pennsburg, PA

Weis Markets Opened: 2005 Previous Tenants:  Ames Location:  498 Pottstown Ave, Pennsburg, PA Photographed:  January 6, 2020 We are here in the tiny town of Pennsburg, PA (not even 4000 people, which by my standards is quite small) for a Weis located in a former Ames department store. The supermarket takes up around 54,000 square feet of this strip mall, with a 35,000 square foot Ace hardware next door. It's possible that the Ames encompassed both of these spaces, or that the Ace was previously a grocery store next to the 54,000 square foot Ames. This store has gotten a very simple version of the latest decor package that we most recently saw in Doylestown . In a very standard layout for Weis, beer/wine and cafe, prepared foods, and deli line the left side of the grand aisle with produce on the right. Bakery and seafood are at the back of the grand aisle with meat and dairy taking up the rest of the perimeter and frozen on the far right side. While I don't think this sto...

TOUR: Redner's Warehouse Markets - Quakertown, PA

Redner's Warehouse Market Open: 1997-2022 Previous Tenants:  Clemens (1976-1996) Location:  701 S West End Blvd Photographed:  January 12, 2019 Contributor:  Lucas from Grocery Voice Lucas is bringing us another store tour today, this one of the Redner's in Quakertown! I've unfortunately never been to Quakertown myself, but I'm glad Lucas has, given that this Redner's closed last year. This is the first good tour of a warehouse-style Redner's we've had, as compared to their Fresh Market concept. The 56,000 square foot store looks fairly typical of the warehouse stores, from what I understand although my experience with Redner's is limited regardless. Aisles run parallel to the front wall, with produce at the front, perishables on the back wall, and frozen foods in the second-to-last aisle. The interior here is clearly much lower-end in appearance and setup than the Fresh Market stores, and the focus is value. The displays are simple and the selection i...

TOUR: Kimberton Whole Foods - Ottsville, PA

Kimberton Whole Foods Owner: Terry Brett Opened:  2019 Cooperative:  INFRA Location:  4010 Durham Rd, Ottsville, PA Photographed:  July 22, 2021 Today's post is a really exciting store -- at least to me! This is our second time visiting a Kimberton Whole Foods natural market, with our first stop back in Downingtown in the Lancaster County area. That store was fine, but didn't do much for me. This 18,000 square foot, four-year-old location really blew me away, though, and a big part of that was the produce department. As we'll see, there's a lot of really unique local stuff here. The store also features a restaurant on the side with its own entrance. For the supermarket, we enter in the middle of the storefront and turn right for produce and bulk foods on the right side wall. Meats and dairy are on the back wall, with frozen foods in the second-to-last aisle and bakery/prepared foods in the last aisle. There's a coffee shop/cafe in the front left corner, with HABA ...
