ALDI Opened:  2013 Previous Tenants:  Grand Union (closed 2001) Location:  156 S Liberty Dr, Stony Point, NY Photographed:  June 2, 2021 Stony Point, NY is a small town just north of Haverstraw and West Haverstraw along the Hudson River. It's home to two supermarkets these days, although for a long time it had one and then none, and then one again. Grand Union built a store here around the 1970s, occupying around 35,000 square feet along route 9W then closing by 2001. I'm not sure whether it ever became a C&S-owned Grand Union Family Markets but by 2008 , it had closed either way and the space was vacant. By 2010, Inserra Supermarkets -- which previously occupied the West Haverstraw space now filled by Stop & Shop -- built a new store at double the size of this Grand Union just behind it, and three years after that, ALDI took half of the Grand Union space, remodeling it beyond recognition. ShopRite of Stony Point Owner: Inserra Supermarkets Opened:  2010 Previous Tenants:  none Cooperative:  Wakefern Food Corp. Location:  22 Holt Dr, Stony Point, NY Photographed:  June 2, 2021 Welcome to the ShopRite of Stony Point! The 70,000 square foot store was built in 2010 just up the street from where Inserra Supermarkets had owned a ShopRite for around 25 years, but closed in 2005. This store was built just behind a former Grand Union of half its size, part of which is now an ALDI . This is one of the nicer Inserra stores I've been to, and I think even though the decor is going on 15 years old at this point it still looks really good. For the most part, too, the store has been maintained exceptionally well (with a few exceptions) -- a big difference from nearby Garnerville , which opened as a ShopRite just five years before this one. Stop & Shop Opened: 2008 Previous Tenants:  Pantry Pride > Inserra ShopRite (1980-2005) Location:  7 Samsondale Plz, West Haverstraw, NY Photographed:  June 2, 2021 Welcome to the Stop & Shop in West Haverstraw! Thanks to a commenter on my original post from back in 2019 we have a very extensive history of this location, beginning with its opening as Pantry Pride in the late 60s or early 70s. Inserra ShopRite moved in by the late 70s and began a major renovation of the store, expanding it to its present 50,000 square feet. In 2005, Inserra closed the store (possibly around the time Garnerville opened a mile and a quarter west) and three years later, Stop & Shop opened up shop after a renovation, including turning a walkway from the front parking lot to the back parking lot into an extension of the sales floor. The Market of Rockland Owner: Jasmine Perez Open:  2021-2023 Cooperative:  Retail Grocers Group Location:  91 US-9W, West Haverstraw, NY Photographed:  June 2, 2021 At just 8,000 square feet, The Market of Rockland is a very, very small supermarket. But it's still a supermarket nonetheless! The store opened in a former West Marine store in 2021, branding itself the rather wordy The Market of Rockland by Antillana Super Food, Antillana being a chain of small supermarkets in the Bronx and northern Manhattan. They also have one new and much larger store in Morris Heights, the Bronx . We enter to the produce and dairy departments on the right side of the store, with the meat and seafood counters at the back. Frozen foods are on the left side of the store, and a compact area offering the deli, a juice bar, and a hot food bar is in the front left corner.
