I went to this Pioneer Supermarket on December 6. Unfortunately, it didn't open until December 8, and I didn't know that until I arrived and found the store with its doors and windows closed and covered. Regardless, I still reported that the store would open soon ! It's been a few months, but now I've finally gotten back to check it out. I must say, I love the exterior. As I mentioned on that post, this space was originally an A&P, and you can tell because of the distinctive facade. But it spent the last several years as a Rite Aid that closed in 2023. Pioneer Supermarkets Opened:  December 8, 2024 Owner:  unknown Previous Tenants:  A&P > ? > Rite Aid (closed 2023) Cooperative:  Associated Supermarket Group Location:  592 E 183rd St, Belmont/Little Italy, Bronx, NY Photographed:  July 2, 2021 and December 6, 2024 Everyone knows Little Italy in Manhattan, but less-known is the Bronx's Little Italy, located along Arthur Avenue in the Belmont section. We're in the middle of the Bronx here, about half a mile south of Fordham University, or for non-New Yorkers, about eight and a half miles northeast of Times Square. Here at Arthur Avenue and East 183rd Street, a former Rite Aid opened today as a brand-new Pioneer Supermarket. I visited on Friday, mistakenly thinking the store had already opened. The door was open as they were bringing in last-minute merchandise, and I saw inside the store. It'll be quite nice, from what I could see.
