Welcome to the latest Stop & Shop renovation! This store opened in the late 1990s as an Edwards, becoming a Stop & Shop in the early 00s when the chain rebranded. It got a full renovation in the mid-00s or so before getting some other fix-ups over time, and this store has always struck me as being kept up really well. Now, it's getting another overhaul.
You can see some "before" pictures here on my original post. The 67,000 square foot store seems to do fine and be kept in really good shape despite (or perhaps because of) its very close proximity to multiple other very busy supermarkets. Here in the grand aisle, the produce department looks like it's been reset and the walls have been painted, but the real renovation work hasn't yet made it to the deli and prepared foods departments. These areas were redone more recently than the rest of the store, and it looks like they really don't need much work.
The wooden framing you can see here was done in this store's last (partial) renovation, and might be staying up while new signage is installed -- hard to tell so far. Temporary signage has been hung in front of the existing decor.
It looks like the majority of the fixtures here won't be replaced, and they don't seem to be in particularly bad shape -- though there are some things, such as this seafood counter that's been reduced in size, that might need addressing. But overall, the store doesn't look bad and it's nice to see some modernizing happening.
These fairly new stores make for great remodels, as you can see in Sparta (roughly 15 miles northwest) courtesy of Acme Style. The stores are new enough that they still feel new once the renovation is over.
It looks like they kinda started over on the left side of the store, which is home to dairy, frozen, and bakery, as those departments look a little farther along than the other side.
And on the front end, the old signage had been stripped but nothing (not even a new coat of paint) had gone in yet. These pictures, however, are about two weeks old by now so I'm not entirely sure how far along they are now. These recent Stop & Shop remodels seem to be mostly moving very quickly, which is great because they're finally addressing the aging store base for real. I definitely didn't hesitate to point out Stop & Shop's problems, but it really looks like the chain has fully moved beyond all those struggles now and is seriously on a good path.
We'll be back to check out this remodel when it's done! In the meantime, here's this weekend's other posts...
