Dumbo Market
Opened: November 7, 2025
See the store in progress here. As I mention on that post, it was initially reported that this store would replace the older Urban Market location diagonally across the street, which is owned by the same family, but both stores seem to be fully functional and here to stay, at least for now. (It's always possible the Urban Market will wind down its operations over time.) But this Dumbo Market is a brand-new store in a brand-new building, and the owners have certainly made every effort to show that everything is new.
The interior is among the most sleek and modern that I've seen recently, with high-end fixtures, great lighting, and a clean-looking decor package. At 13,000 square feet, the store is rather small, but it's quite a bit larger than the even-smaller Urban Market nearby.
The grand aisle is the focal point of the store, with produce lining the front wall and part of the left-side wall. Registers are in the front-right corner along the right-side wall, along with a cafe seating area. A peninsula in the middle of the store has a coffee shop, plus cheese, sushi, deli, bakery, and seafood counters winding around it, and dairy is on the left side of the store in the first aisle. Meats are on the back wall, and frozen is on the right side in the last aisle.
Below, we're looking towards the back of the store. Deli lines the left side of the counter you can see below, and bakery and seafood are at the back facing the grocery aisles.
This is one of the recent openings for Key Food, which continues to be on a roll with new stores and conversions. This weekend is also bringing two new Key Food stores to Brooklyn, with a Flatbush Food Universe opening last Thursday and the new K-Slope Marketplace in Park Slope opening tomorrow. Keep an eye out for coverage on both of those stores.
The cheese department extends into this unusual circular island in the middle of the grand aisle.
Produce continues down part of the first aisle, on the left side of the store, along with beer and dairy. The deli is on the other side of the beer case visible to the right.
Looking back up towards the front wall of the store...
Dumbo Market is also preparing to open in a former CVS on the Upper East Side at 1223 Second Ave, and has announced additional locations for Hoboken (38 Jackson St) and Jersey City (under the Urban Market name, at 333 Grand St). Meanwhile, though, the Urban Market in Hoboken -- which just opened in March -- is already up for sale.
Behind the deli counter, the bakery counter wraps around the back of the peninsula with seafood just beyond it. The grocery aisles are in the back half of the supermarket, along with meat and frozen.
Looking up towards the front of the first aisle...
Meat runs across the back wall. Even among new supermarkets, this one has a distinctly modern look -- the dark colors and shiny surfaces everywhere give it a different, sleek appearance, even compared to the similarly new Hoboken location owned by the same family.
This store is in the southwestern part of Long Island City, which is itself a peninsula. There aren't too many supermarkets in this neighborhood, but a booming housing market. In addition to the Urban Market, there's an independent Foodcellar Market and two small grocers, one called Evergreen Marketplace and the other one called Prestige Market. Towards Court Square, a bit outside of this immediate neighborhood, there are multiple other grocers.
The center-store sales floor area is relatively small here, but the selection is fairly large because of the high shelving. It's still a limited selection though, just because of the size. The emphasis here is clearly on the perimeter.
Frozen foods in the last aisle, again in somewhat unusual and modern-looking fixtures.
And the seafood counter is up next on the perimeter. Deli is around the corner to the right below, with the coffee shop and customer service directly behind seafood.
Here's a look across the middle of the store, with the grand aisle to the left and the grocery aisles to the right.

Beyond the registers, there's a small cafe seating area.
