Bloomingdale Supermarket by Foodtown
Above, the incoming Key Food tag is on the left, while the outgoing Allegiance tag is on the right. I like the bold, simple design of the Allegiance tag. But Key Food makes itself known, just barely, in the frozen foods department...
...with a tag for a Key Food storebrand product, Urban Meadow frozen fries, that isn't yet on the shelves. Here you can see the old and new tags -- the ones with the blue rectangles are Allegiance and the orange ones are Key Food -- plus others still in progress, such as the blank one on the left. This store appears to be undergoing a reset, as you can see there are items listed on the tags that aren't actually on the shelves. The grocery shelves seemed to be stocked very thinly, with not more than one or two rows of actual product in each facing, which could be a result of the fact that this appears to be a very low-volume store, or it could be because of an upcoming reset when the store officially becomes a SuperFresh. Right now, this store is listed as "opening soon" on the Key Food website. Stay tuned for more updates on this store and the Maplewood location's transition! In the meantime...
Opened: January 5, 2024
Here in Bloomingdale, the tiny store appears to be undergoing a reset. When I visited last week, about half of the Foodtown/Allegiance price tags had been replaced with Key Food tags, although there's no other signs in the store that a change is coming. This store is set to become a SuperFresh in the coming weeks, and Maplewood is soon to become a Food Emporium. (Both the Foodtown and Green Way names are owned by Allegiance, so if Shapiro is leaving Allegiance to join Key Food, he'd no longer have access to those brands for his stores.) Incidentally, Green Way, Food Emporium, and SuperFresh are all brands previously owned by A&P. I can only hope that the switch to SuperFresh will bring an all-new sign outside, rather than the laughably bad Food World/Bloomingdale Supermarket by Foodtown hybrid.Owner: Adam Shapiro

Welcome back to Bloomingdale, NJ! Don't remember this tiny town of 8,000 people? It has an 8,000 square foot supermarket right in the middle of town, which started way back in the 1950s as the Big Leader Supermarket. By the 1960s, it had become a ShopRite, then a Pathmark in 1968. The following decade, Pathmark moved to Kinnelon. This store became an IGA called Food World, which closed in 2023 and shortly thereafter reopened as Bloomingdale Supermarket by Foodtown. (The new store's logo has been rather unfortunately fit into the frame for the Food World sign.) That new store is owned by Adam Shapiro, who also manages operations for Jack's Foodtown's four locations. Aside from Jack's, Shapiro owns this store, the Green Way Markets in Maplewood, and now Marrazzo's Market near Trenton as well. All seven of those stores are members of Allegiance Retail Services, but now, at least two of them are in the process of preparing to leave Allegiance and join Key Food.
