McKinnon's Meat Market
The Davis Square McKinnon's is not a large store. In fact, it's only about 2500 square feet. It's primarily a butcher shop, but there's also some other grocery items and produce. But it's definitely not a supermarket the way the other locations are.
You enter to the meat department on the left side of the store. Frozen foods and groceries are also in that area, with produce at the front and deli and dairy on the right side.
The interior is old-school but extremely well maintained. It's definitely a fixture at Davis Square and probably doesn't need to change because it's so well-liked.
Produce is in the front corner of the store, with dairy and deli behind it. If you want an idea of the layout, you can see this 360-degree view on Google Maps. That also gives you an idea of just how small the place is.
They don't make 'em like this anymore. It's always fun to see a store like this, that's clearly a holdover from another time but also still well-maintained and well-used. And in fact, there are still new small-format neighborhood grocers like this opening up. I discussed one not long ago that opened in what used to be the Fresh Pond Market over in western Cambridge.
Opened: 1966
There are two grocery stores at Davis Square here in Somerville. One of them is an H Mart, which was previously a bfresh that you can tour here. The other is McKinnon's, a butcher shop and grocer that dates back to 1966 here at Davis Square and is now a small chain. We saw their Wilmington location last February.Owner: James Kontos

Don't forget to see the bfresh here (although it closed in 2023), and on Monday we're headed to Porter Square's Star Market about half a mile south!
