TOUR: Fine Fare Supermarkets - Throggs Neck, Bronx, NY

This 12,000 square foot supermarket is the only one in central Throggs Neck, with the Foodtown at the north end and a small Krasdale affiliate, called S&W Supermarket & Deli, at the southern end. It's owned by Miguel Luna and has in fact been singled out for being one of the cleanest supermarkets around -- never once failing a state inspection. It was previously a CTown (and originally an A&P, I think), with Fine Fare opening in the early 2000s and completing a full renovation in 2009, later being renovated in smaller refreshes.
In the first aisle, we have a beautiful produce department lining the left side, with bakery/deli in the front on the right side, and beer in the back right corner. Dairy lines the back wall, with meat in an expansion in the back left corner. Frozen lines the last aisle.
The service counter is on the side wall, with grab-and-go prepared produce (including fresh-squeezed orange juice) and bakery items on the front.
The exit hallway runs behind these cases.
Front end looking towards the first aisle (deli counter on the side wall, and packaged deli at the front of the first aisle). Although the store is somewhat small, it's beautifully renovated and extremely well-maintained.
Looking along the front end towards the last aisle.
In addition to the deli counter, there's a hot bread display -- something I've only ever seen once before, and in another Fine Fare. There's also warm croissants in a warmer to the left.
Behind bakery is a very cramped beer selection.
Lots of selection in a very small produce department. Note that the croissant warmer and banana display are the same as the Luna brothers' SuperFresh in Glen Rock, NJ.
Dairy along the back wall. Nice flooring of several different types around the store, including ceramic-style tiling in the grocery aisles.
Custom aisle markers, and it looks like the grocery shelving is newer than the other fixtures of the store.
Meats in an expansion beyond the back wall. The dairy department continues just out of frame to the right.
Frozen foods in new cases in the last aisle. Here we're looking towards the front of the store, with customer service and manager's office behind the cases we see here.
Help me out here. This store feels vaguely like a Grand Union, mostly the decor. Did GU ever have decor with this font? Same as the deli/bakery font. Anyway, I don't believe it ever was. And that wraps up our tour and also our look at the South Bronx! Up next we'll be heading up north through the center of the Bronx.
