Our last Newark store is here in Vailsburg for a tour of this 7800 square foot store. Built in 1940 as the first ACME in Newark, it later became the Super Value Supermarket (a Shop Smart Food Market with Krasdale), before opening in 2017 as the city's second CTown. See the first here. It's a small store that's still a full supermarket, but honestly I don't think New Jersey's CTowns are ever as good as the ones in New York City. That said, it's looking pretty good. Let's head in and take a look.
Produce lines the outside of the first aisle, with grocery shelving on the back wall. The store is very deep and narrow. The last aisle contains the meat and dairy selections along with frozen foods, and a tiny deli in the front corner.
It's a bit odd that the back wall is only grocery shelving, since we don't usually see that on a perimeter wall. But it works.
I like the flooring in these aisles!
Unfortunately, some parts of the flooring seem to be coming up a little, as we can see some patching here on the right.
Frozen, meat, and dairy all together in the last grocery aisle! There are 6 aisles in total here.
Deli tucked away in the front corner at the end of the last aisle.
That wraps up our look at Newark! We have a few more stores in Essex County before we finish for good, but they're kind of isolated from the rest of the county. So we're going to head to the west to Millburn -- incidentally, the highest-income municipality in the state -- to tour their largest supermarket tomorrow right here on The Market Report, before passing through Livingston to the north one last time!
