Coming Soon!

We are almost in Boston! Before we get into the city, we're going to stop in the town of Quincy just south of the southernmost neighborhoods of Boston. Quincy borders the far-south neighborhoods of Neponset and Ashmont. Quincy, the birthplace of John Adams and John Quincy Adams (and named after John Quincy, after whom John Quincy Adams was also named), is a city of about 100,000 people near the coast. In my experience, by the way, the city's name is pronounced closer to "quin-zee" than "quin-see", which I can't explain. There's a large Asian community, including a lot of Chinese American immigrants, and of course the supermarkets to match. We'll be visiting the grocery stores of Quincy from south to north (plus one random stop in Braintree just to the south) and end up in far northern Quincy just a mile from the Boston border. Also here in Quincy: the headquarters of The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, located right in Quincy Center. Tomorrow we'll see the one store in Braintree before moving north to Quincy!

  1. Easy explanation for how it sounds - it's Massachusetts ;)

Between the accent and their fondness for just making things sound totally unlike they look, this is probably one of the lesser ones out there :)

    1. Very true! Billerica has to be my least favorite of the Massachusetts pronunciations, but there are some really bad ones out there...

  2. Do you have any info on what all the Stop & Shop locations that closed last year are now? Please give me a list.

    2. That was 2024. Today is May 5, 2025. What are those stores up to now compared to 2024? Or are they all the same thing as before?

    3. That page has the most recent information I have. I'm not aware of any other updates since then. I post additional news and updates at news.marketreportblog.com, and I'd encourage you to follow me there to see updates of all kinds.

  3. Also: please get an update on this blog on all the Stop & Shop locations that are now renovating once they finish renovating. The one in Sparta, NJ is under renovation - it looks like they finished the inside but have yet to do the inside, but please get this update on this blog when it is complete.

    1. I will do what I can, but unfortunately, I probably won't be able to visit many in the next month or so. If you'd like to send in pictures, I'm happy to post them, though.

As an aside, Cody, please don't comment the same thing repeatedly. I will only approve the first one. I can only respond to comments once every couple weeks, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten.

    2. Cody, I've noticed you're awfully demanding around here, and it comes across extremely rude. Politeness goes a long way, you know.

  4. Actually I mean they have yet to do the outside, including the exterior and signage.
