In addition to a look at SuperFresh and Food World stores in Brooklyn, we're getting a special look at the new Stop & Shop coming soon to Acton, MA today! A roughly 70,000 square foot former Kmart is being transformed into the newest Stop & Shop, whose footprint will be slightly smaller than the Kmart at around 64,000 square feet. Two other small storefronts are also being constructed. The facade is new, as the Kmart's was a much older, shingled awning design. Our contributor Andrew brings us a look inside the soon-to-open store.
The store has Stop & Shop's newest decor package, which we saw in the Allston Yards location most recently. This location's decor is a bit simpler and older-feeling -- notice the white vinyl flooring and the white drop ceiling -- but it's in a small town, not the bigger city location of Allston Yards in Boston.
There's a much older and much smaller location already in Acton, about two and a half miles south. It's only around 35,000 square feet. Andrew says it's unclear whether that location will close once this one opens. We'll see that location shortly -- I've photographed it and it'll be coming to the blog soon. Acton has several other supermarkets, including a Roche Brothers diagonally across the street. Roche is a local chain recently acquired by Bozzuto's that specializes in midsized, higher-end supermarkets.
It's nice to see Stop & Shop working on new stores, especially since so much news about them has been negative lately. I'm hoping to get to the area and check out this new store for myself once it opens, too, so stay tuned. And in the meantime, thanks to Andrew for these pictures!

  1. Yes, nice to see some positive news for Stop & Shop! I think their latest décor package for new stores is the absolute best in the history of the chain. Same goes for the exterior signage. Looking forward to this store getting full coverage someday.
