This store is huge by the standards of urban Bushwick, but measures only about 45,000 square feet. And since my original post , I've done some more extensive research, so I have more history here. The first supermarket on this property was a Waldbaum's, which built the current building in 1988. They closed probably not too long thereafter, and the space became a Big R Food Warehouse owned by local chain Royal Farms. In 2001, Food Bazaar took over several Big R locations when that chain went under, including this one. They remodeled it shortly after moving in, but then hadn't done much to it since. Food Bazaar Supermarket Opened: 2012 Owner:  Spencer An Previous Tenants:  Bohack (open in 1976) > Food Dimensions (2001-2011) Cooperative:  none Location:  1590 Gates Ave, Ridgewood, Queens, NY Photographed:  September 12, 2025 In addition to the new Inwood Fine Fare , today is all about Food Bazaar. This is one of three stores we're revisiting, two of which are in New York City. The Gates Avenue Food Bazaar is in Ridgewood, Queens, but just actually about two and a half blocks from the Wyckoff Avenue Food Bazaar in Bushwick, Brooklyn, as we're right at the borough line here. Gates appears to have been built as a Bohack, which was in business through at least 1976. I don't know what came here after Bohack, but in 2001, it became a Food Dimensions (owned by Food Bazaar), which switched to Food Bazaar in 2011. Fine Fare Supermarkets Opened: August 13, 2025 Owner:  unknown Previous Tenants:  non-grocery tenants Cooperative:  Retail Grocers Group Location:  4650 Broadway, Inwood, Manhattan, NY Photographed:  September 12, 2025 We're back in the Big Apple for today's posts! The Market Report's first stop is way up in Inwood, the farthest-north neighborhood in Manhattan, to check out a brand-new Fine Fare Supermarket. Like the one at Broadway and 178th, about 20 blocks south, this one is branded Fine Fare Gold. It's in the ground floor of a new development in a historic building . The Packard Building is all but unrecognizable today, with a residential tower extending many floors above it and an approximately 16,000 square foot Fine Fare at the base. (Note that that's an extremely rough estimate, and I don't actually know just how large this store is.)
