Bravo Supermarkets

One final Bronx store, this time a recently-closed store that's preparing to reopen. We saw a few weeks ago the CTown on University Ave in Morris Heights, which burned down in February 2023. A year before that, in February 2022, this Bravo had a major fire. It closed the store but it's almost ready to reopen. I would estimate the size of this store at around 7500 square feet, and until 2014, it was a Met Foodmarket. I'm not sure if ownership changed when the store switched to Bravo, but many stores left Met and its related cooperatives Pioneer, Compare, and Associated in 2014 when their supplier White Rose went bankrupt. The cooperatives reorganized and joined up the same year to become the new Associated Supermarket Group.
Work was actively progressing on the store when I walked by, including putting what looked like finishing touches on refrigeration, and the interior looked pretty good. Unfortunately, there was a crew of people bringing fixtures in through the front door -- the only opening -- so I couldn't get any interior progress shots.
You can see the remants of the fire damage on the floors above the supermarket. It looks like the renovation is extensive, mostly by necessity. Within the boundaries of the Parkchester development to the east, there are two Key Foods, a Fine Fare, a CTown, and a Foodtown, the closest around 1/10th of a mile east and the farthest just under half a mile east; three blocks west is a strange and very small store operating as Fine Fare but oddly not affiliated with the Fine Fare group, instead affiliated with Krasdale. I'll be back to check out the new store when it opens, but in the meantime, here's this weekend's other posts!
