Good Health Natural Foods
The primary focus here at Good Health Natural Foods was, well, natural foods. About half the store was vitamins and supplements, but the other side had dairy, frozen, grocery, and a small produce department that I didn't get a picture of.
The store was small but mighty, with a few grocery aisles of natural foods. I love the flooring here.
Although this location closed, there's still a second Good Health still operating. It's in Hanover, MA, about 15 miles south.
The above pictures were from my initial visit in 2019. I returned in 2023 after the space had been cleaned out but was still vacant...
The store is right in the middle of Quincy Center, and their sign (on the other side of the parking lot) doubled as a welcome sign to Quincy Center.
Given this sign, and the fact that the store closed in 2022, we can deduce that this one first opened in 1978. I don't know if the space was previously a supermarket before Good Health -- or if Good Health was in this location for all 44 years -- but the building strikes me as a likely candidate for being an older supermarket.
The interior had been cleaned out, and all the fixtures were gone but the flooring was still there. Still love that wood floor!
As I recall it, the food store was on the left side and the vitamins and supplements were on the right side. What we can see below is, I believe, the entrance to the vitamin/supplement area, and possibly the customer service counter, although my memory is a little fuzzy.
Open: 1978-2022
Quincy has seen several grocery store closures over the past few years. Four of the stores I visited when I first came to Quincy in 2019 closed by the time I returned in 2023. Two of the stores, a Roche Brothers and a Big Y that we'll see in a few days, are still open but are now Asian supermarkets. More than anything else, then, I would assume the reason behind the closures is just a demographic shift. Right in Quincy Center, a delightful little natural food store is the one that hasn't been replaced by anything and, as far as I know, the 8200 square foot space is now occupied by a political campaign office.Owner: Diane Maturo

It's sad to see this store having closed, but it's great that there's still a second location. Just three blocks west, though, across the train tracks, there's still a supermarket in Quincy Center, and that's where we're going tomorrow!
