Another SuperFresh store is on its way to Brooklyn as a newly-built mixed-use development in Cypress Hills will house a supermarket on the ground floor. The new building takes up an entire city block on Fulton between Euclid and Chestnut, making the supermarket a sizeable 20,000 square feet or so (large for this urban part of southeastern Brooklyn). The store will be owned by Frank Pimentel, who owns a SuperFresh and a Food Universe in the Bronx. Both were previously Fine Fare.
A generally lower-income neighborhood, Cypress Hills doesn't have a lot of supermarkets but there are a few not far from here. There's a Key Food about two and a half blocks over, and five blocks east of that is another Key Food-affiliated store. Until late 2024, it was a Pioneer affiliated with ASG, but then it switched to Global Fresh along with a store each in the Bronx and Manhattan. Those three stores are now in the process of converting to SuperFresh (also a Key Food brand), meaning that these two SuperFresh stores will be very close together but under different ownership. Another Key Food-affiliated independent, Golden Farms, is about six blocks south. Four blocks west is a Shop Fair, and four blocks north is a Western Beef.
This store, though, appears to be larger than all of those others, including the Western Beef (which has a parking lot). The Shop Fair, for instance, is just 4000 square feet.
You'll enter on the left side of the store to the grand aisle, which has produce to the left and deli next to that. The main supermarket is to the right, with the grocery aisles extending behind where the produce and deli departments are. As you can see in these pictures taken through the front windows, there are also a few short grocery aisles in the front here. You can also see this is shaping up to be a very nice new supermarket.
A look inside through the windows on the right side of the storefront show us the new registers and grocery aisles. It looks like dairy might be on the back wall.
Prior to this development, this property was a warehouse or industrial complex. I'll be back once SuperFresh opens, but in the meantime, here's this weekend's other posts!
