It's time to visit another small store similar to Steeple Market, which I posted Friday. This store is somewhere between a full supermarket and a general store (it even reminds me a bit of this store which we saw a couple months ago). Similar to Smitty's, the Cambridge Village Market has changed ownership a couple times over the years but has been continuously operating since the 1850s.
This store is slightly larger than Steeple Market, measuring around 5600 square feet. The produce department is up front along with baked goods and the registers. Beer/wine and frozen foods are on the left side; dairy and meat are on the right side; deli is towards the back.
Despite the [town name] Village Market name, this store isn't owned by Associated Grocers Northeast. But it is supplied by AGNE.
Deli and meat/butcher are on the right side of the store.
And although there's no service bakery counter, there's lots of freshly-made baked goods. You can see this appealing array of pies, cookies, donuts, biscuits...
...and don't worry, I definitely sampled a few myself. Although the interior of this store is generic enough that it doesn't look particularly old or new, there are a few reminders of the building's long history as a grocer such as this door...
Just about two miles east, there's another similar small grocer in Jeffersonville. More on that in tomorrow's post!
