Coming Soon!

Welcome to Boston! Although I lived in Massachusetts for about five years, only a few months of that was spent living in Boston (for work). Those months were in the summer of 2019, and when I lived in the city, I made it my mission to photograph as many supermarkets as I could in town. Well, I got to visit and photograph every one, along with a lot of smaller grocers and former grocery store buildings, and although more supermarkets have come and gone since then, I've kept up, photographing all supermarkets as of now.

Because it's been quite some time since I actually have lived in Boston, the majority of my pictures are now about six years old. I've returned a few times and you'll see assorted newer photos, but consider the main set from 2019 as a snapshot in time of the city's grocery stores. Many have been renovated, and some have closed, but a lot hasn't changed so we'll see a lot that's still relevant!

We're starting our tour of the city at the southern end near the Quincy border. Mattapan and Hyde Park are two very suburban, far southern neighborhoods of the city (and notice in the map, if you're not familiar with Boston, that downtown is actually near the northern edge of the city overall). Mattapan and Hyde Park each have a few main business districts, and the large thoroughfare of Blue Hill Avenue runs through Mattapan. And over in Hyde Park, Hyde Park Avenue originates in downtown Boston as Washington Street, then runs through Chinatown, Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain, becoming Hyde Park Avenue at the border of Jamaica Plain and Roslindale (Washington Street, incidentally, diverts out to Dedham). There's only a few supermarkets in this neighborhood because it's not particularly dense, so let's start tomorrow with a supermarket on the border of southern Dorchester and Mattapan!
