SuperFresh
Opening: July 2025
In the picture above, you can see the centennial roofline behind the newer facade, which SuperFresh has remodeled. The new facade resembles the recently-installed one at Passaic, suggesting it's the same owners. They also own the SuperFresh and Food Universe in Clifton.
It's not the first time I've coincidentally been at a store as a sign is going up or coming down. I happened to be at the Universal in Orange, also a Key Food store, when the CTown signage was coming down.
This isn't permanent signage yet, but just a temporary banner. Per the Google Maps listing for this store, it's expected to open next month, but I don't know if that's still the schedule they're working on.
This is a bit of an unusual spot for a SuperFresh. Most SuperFresh stores, or any Key Food stores for that matter, are in urban areas or the downtown part of town. This one is in a strip mall on the highway, and it's a little bit unusual to see a 20,000 square foot mainstream supermarket in that location. An Amazon Fresh and a ShopRite, both much larger, are half a mile east on route 46 (scroll down for links to those). Still, this strip mall is accessible from McBride Avenue, the cross street, so it's not strictly a highway store.
The Census Bureau says that nearly a third of Woodland Park's population is Hispanic, though, and that's likely the community SuperFresh is primarily targeting here. Still, with stores like their Clifton SuperFresh, this owner definitely runs mainstream supermarkets. It'll be interesting to see what the approach is here in Woodland Park.
A simple paint job and small facade updates sure make it look a lot more appealing than it did. Based on the Passaic and Clifton stores, I'm sure this will have a very attractive interior.
The banner is almost up...
And there it is! SuperFresh coming soon.
Owner: unknown
Time for another new SuperFresh! This approximately 20,000 square foot store was originally part of an A&P, in fact a centennial store constructed in the early 1960s. A&P moved to a large, modern location next door in the early 2000s, and this store (which had been expanded a few times) was subdivided. Now, a SuperFresh operator has begun renovating the right side of the building for a new supermarketPrevious Tenants: A&P > assorted non-grocery tenants
Cooperative: Key Food Stores
Location: 1750 US-46, Woodland Park, NJ

In the above picture, you can see the former A&P building to the right. It's now been subdivided. Here's a better look...
By sheer coincidence, I happened to be stopping by this store just as a crew was putting up a SuperFresh Coming Soon banner on the front. It's not the first time I've coincidentally been at a store as a sign is going up or coming down. And there it is! SuperFresh coming soon.
I'll be back to check it out once it opens, of course, but in the meantime...
Saturday
- Whole Foods opens new Daily Shop locations in Hells Kitchen and Stuy Town
- LIDL opens a new Downtown Brooklyn location as it prepares another in nearby Williamsburg
Sunday
- More LIDL news as we check out one of their new NJ locations plus another on the way
- Signage goes up for the latest SuperFresh coming soon (this post)
- An Indian supermarket moves into a strip mall once home to an ACME in Passaic County
- We check in on a renovated ShopRite and a newly rejiggered Amazon Fresh across the street from each other
I believe the A&P relocation in what was then West Paterson, which was later the andThat where AutoZone is now and World Market, occurred in the mid-to-late 1990s, around the same time as the one opened in Pequannock in a former Jamesway, now a Stop & Shop, given they both had the same exterior.
ReplyDeleteStrange choice all around. The facade lights up at night. For some reason red is stuck in my head but that doesn't make sense. When I saw it lit, the SuperFresh sign was not up yet so I didn't pay it all much attention. Gonna be easy to stop here from Route 46, which is not the case with Amazon Fresh.
