Main Street Grocery
The store isn't that old, but has an old-school, familiar feeling. You enter in the front-left corner and walk across the front to produce in the front-right corner. Deli and bakery are on the right side, with meat on the back wall and dairy/frozen along with beer and wine on the left side.
The store doesn't seem to have changed much since changing ownership recently.
It's directly across the street from another, very different, grocery store which you can tour here.
Looking back over to the right side of the store...
The way this supermarket is set up, the first aisle is the dairy and beer/wine aisle on the left side of the store, and the last aisle is the produce/bakery aisle on the right side.
Damariscotta, a small town of about 2200, is also home to a big-chain store that we'll see on Monday.
Dairy and beer/wine in the last aisle...
And a look across the front-end.
This is a nice, small town-feeling grocery store, and it's good that the independent supermarket here has been preserved!
Opened: 2022 under current ownership; 2018 previously
When I visited in the summer of 2019, it was still owned by the Gravels and still an IGA member.Owner: Greg Snyder
Previous Tenants: Yellowfront Grocery (1990-2018)
Cooperative: Associated Grocers of New England (previously IGA)
Location: 5 Coastal Marketplace, Damariscotta, ME
Photographed: August 10, 2019
Constructed in 1990 as the Yellowfront Grocery (with a yellow front -- or at least a partially yellow front), this approximately 15,000 square foot supermarket became Main Street Grocery in 2018. Local business owners Jane and Gary Gravel took over the supermarket when Yellowfront closed, then sold it again in 2022. The new owner, Greg Snyder, has switched the store's supplier from IGA (supplied by Bozzuto's) to Associated Grocers of New England.

When I visited, it was still being supplied by Bozzuto's via IGA, so you can see the Seven Farms bags here. Seven Farms is the organic/natural brand that Bozzuto's uses. Now, it sells Food Club and Full Circle items. Don't forget to check out the other supermarket right across the street here, and have a good weekend!
