Outside of Camden is this tiny supermarket -- the Megunticook Market, so named for the bordering Megunticook Market and spanning just 5000 square feet. (That still makes it almost double the size of French & Brawn in town.)
Part convenience store, part full supermarket, part take-out restaurant, and part amazing bakery -- I've been to the Megunticook Market several times, including in both 2019 and 2022 (and the photos come from both visits).
You enter in the front-left corner where there's a table displaying the amazing baked goods -- more shortly -- with grocery aisles in the middle of the store. Deli and prepared foods are at the back of the store, with produce, meat, dairy, and frozen at the back and on the right side.
Like French & Brawn, this store is a member of the Associated Grocers of New England cooperative.
This is a basic grocery store with a selection that angles a bit upscale, though of course it needs to have some of everything. We're not exactly in the remote far reaches of the forest here, but it also acts as the main grocery store for this part of Camden.
Deli and produce at the back. There's a menu of food that you can order at the deli, and an emphasis on local items in the produce case.
But still, this is a small store and space is a limiting factor.
Frozen foods and dairy at the back of the store...
There's also a beer and wine section here.
Now for a look at the baked goods, which are made in-store although there isn't a separate bakery counter.
Among my favorites: the S'mores brownie, with marshmallows and chocolate on top, and a massive cinnamon roll -- a pen for scale.
From here, we're traveling about six miles inland to check out a much smaller general store with some fun offerings!
