Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire have lots of small independent grocers, and the vacation destination town of Ogunquit on the Maine coast is served by the Village Food Market. In business since the 1970s, the 3,000 square foot store is a member of Associated Grocers of New England.
Unfortunately, I only have drive-by photos here, but this video posted to Google Maps actually gives us a really good look inside the market.
This building down the street, at 166 Main St, looks like it could've been a general store or some other small grocer at one point, but I don't know that for sure. At the time I took this photo, it was an antique store; the building has since been renovated and expanded into a collection of various shops.
While we're on the subject of grocery history, tomorrow we're headed up to Wells to see another store with a lot of history!
