This Shaw's is one of two in Nashua -- one, built in the early 00s, is downtown, while this one is outside of town and close to a lot of other supermarkets that we'll be seeing over the next several days. At just under 60,000 square feet, this one is about 10,000 square feet smaller than the downtown location. I don't know the history here, but I would bet that it's probably an older store that was expanded and renovated in the early 00s. Its most recent renovation was between 2017 and when I visited in 2021.

This is always convenient: a floor plan diagram so I don't have to explain the layout!

I would be willing to guess this was on the earlier end of Shaw's remodels, since this has more in common with the remodels of ca. 2018 than those of ca. 2021. You'll notice, for instance, that the flooring wasn't replaced, something that's happened in a lot of remodels in the last several years. These produce bins that run horizontally across the department also strike me as something more like what Shaw's was doing pre-COVID than in the last few years.

Despite close proximity to a very nearby Market Basket, this Shaw's didn't at all seem to be struggling when I visited. It was in great shape, well-stocked, and busy. Shaw's still has some trouble competing with the powerhouse that is Market Basket, but it doesn't seem close proximity is a death sentence these days.
