Trader Joe's
Opened: November 2024
The approximately 20,000 square foot store occupies a former Staples in a mall north of downtown Milford. This is only the second Trader Joe's in Worcester County (the first was out in Shrewsbury); there are 25 Trader Joe's across Massachusetts.
You enter to the produce department on the left side of the store, with cheeses and deli across the back wall. Frozen foods are in the middle of the store, with meat in the back-right corner and baked goods in the last aisle.
A former Bed Bath & Beyond next door has become a Burlington, and just behind this building, a large former Best Buy is still vacant. This strip mall, in a somewhat remote location between the interstate and the center of town, is anchored by a Target.
One thing you see rarely in other stores: polished concrete flooring with white ceiling tiles. Often, you'll see polished concrete with an open ceiling or polished concrete with a dark painted drop ceiling. Trader Joe's is one of the relatively few chains that consistently uses this combination.
A very spacious last aisle here -- was there another row of shelving removed here or something? Baked goods are in the last row of shelves, with chips and snacks opposite and customer service at the front. It's also possible this is designed to be extra spacious for extra room to line up at the registers. Given that there aren't many Trader Joe's in the area, I wouldn't be surprised if this one gets crowded.
And a look across the front-end...

In a way, Trader Joe's stores are like Market Basket stores -- it's hard to tell exactly how old they are from just looking at them since they tend to use a timeless design that's relatively consistent across the stores. So I was surprised to find that this Trader Joe's in Milford is still very new, having only opened in November of 2024 (I visited in August 2025, so shortly thereafter).Previous Tenants: Staples
Cooperative: none
Location: 230 Fortune Blvd, Milford, MA
Photographed: August 24, 2025

Milford also has three big-chain, large format supermarkets along with another small-format chain store. We'll be seeing those all over the next several days, but for now, enjoy the weekend and I'll see you at the Milford Stop & Shop on Monday!
