Welcome to Hopkinton! This town of just under 20,000 is home to a relatively new Price Chopper, which is the only supermarket in town. It's a 40,000 square foot store that was built in 2012, and it still feels pretty new inside. Hopkinton did also previously have an independent supermarket in town, Colella's, which stood on Main Street for 70 years. You can see more about the store on this Facebook page.
A Starbucks and a cafe are in the front-left corner. The grand aisle is on the left side of the store, with deli and prepared foods lining the left side wall and bakery in the back corner. Meat and seafood are on the rest of the back wall, with dairy and frozen on the right side. No pharmacy here, but floral is in the front-right corner.
It looked like the prepared foods departments were up and running here -- something that's been eliminated in many older stores.
Other than the decor looking slightly dated, this store still feels quite new. Maintenance here has been excellent.
Bakery in the back-left corner. Unlike some Price Choppers of this model, bagels and donuts are in the same area as the rest of the bakery. In some, the bagels and donuts are up in the front in their own department. See Webster, which opened a year after this one.
The high ceiling and skylights help the store feel spacious and new.
And the grocery aisles are bright and open, too.
A random bit of trivia: this store and Marlborough, which is about ten miles north, are the farthest-east Price Chopper/Market 32 locations in Massachusetts, and possibly overall. They do have some easterly stores in New Hampshire, but none in the Boston area, and none in Rhode Island.
One feature that makes it clear this is a newer store: the freezer cases' lights are on a motion senser. So they're not simply out -- they only turn on when you walk by.
Dairy lines the outside of the last aisle, with frozen facing.
And a rather well-stocked floral department is in the front-right corner. The large window here is a nice feature.
A look across the front-end...
Tomorrow The Market Report heads into Milford, the larger city in this area about five miles southeast. Come back to check out our first stop!
