Ever heard of Wenham, MA? I'm sure most haven't -- it's a town of less than 5000 people over eight square miles, a bit over 20 miles northeast of Boston. I certainly wouldn't know about the town, save for a friend who grew up here. The town is home to Gordon College, a small school, and a small museum. It's also home to the Wenham Tea House, the only restaurant in town.
This is where the suburbs start to give way to farmland and forests, and there are a number of nature preserves and other protected land around here. Tendercrop Farm, which opened here in 2015 (it was previously a different farm), has opened a farm market and food store in a building on the farm property, which as you can see is scenic and quaint.
The main event is the produce, much of which is grown on-site (or at other farms owned by Tendercrop, which now has three locations). In fact, the website lists the local produce availabile daily.
In total, the farmstand and grocery store is about 7000 square feet, including this barn-type building where most of the produce is. As you can see, not all of the produce is local (although I do love me a good Massachusetts orange) but the majority is in season. Of course, this store is on the property of a working farm, so there's plenty of ability to grow locally.
In the main store building, there's a large butcher counter (including meats from animals raised on Tendercrop's own farms), and a selection of fresh-made baked goods and prepared foods.
Obviously, this isn't a supermarket where you'd come to do your full food shopping, but there's a lot of good stuff here.
Fresh breads and other baked goods, made on-site...
And there are some other basic groceries and gourmet packaged food items, but the centerpiece is the fresh items.
There are now three Tendercrop Farm locations, both in this area. And although Wenham doesn't have a supermarket, it's close to the ones we saw in Beverly, and close to another to the north in Hamilton. Come back tomorrow to check that one out!

  1. Maybe Wenham just needs to find someone who can win a silver medal - after all, how many people knew about Landgrove VT until that happened?

And then saw the background that the one who won the other medal 50 years ago lives... about 2 miles away from the current winner.
