TOUR: Ideal Food Basket - East Flatbush South, Brooklyn, NY

This store is another Met Foodmarket-turned-NSA Supermarket-turned-Ideal Food Basket (with the changes happening in 2005 and 2012, respectively, with the store opening in 1996). Like our last Ideal, this store is owned by Andres Ferreira and has recently had renovations to fixtures and flooring, but not decor. Unlike the 4806 Church location, though, this one received a much-needed exterior renovation. See what it previously looked like here.
This 20,000 square foot supermarket is one of the larger ones in East Flatbush, and was a longtime Met Foodmarket that has been expanded.
I have to say, the exterior renovation is looking fantastic. The inside also looks very good, although it's clearly on the older side...
Like the 4806 Church location, this store has a deli immediately inside the entrance. However, unlike 4806, the deli here is on the front wall between the entrance and exit, not the side wall outside the entrance.
You can see the contrast between the new fixtures for the deli and bakery and the new floor, and the decor. I'm not sure that color combination ever looked particularly great.
There's a service seafood department at the back of the first aisle, with meats on the back wall.
Nice grocery aisles, but like 4806, the grocery shelving has not been updated here.
Because this is a larger store, this Ideal has a dedicated natural/organic/specialty section.
Meats on the back wall.
Ice cream is in the paper goods and cleaning products aisle, but the rest of frozen lines the last aisle with dairy opposite.
Customer service, including every household gadget and gizmo you can think of hanging above it, is in the front corner opposite the entrance.
And a look across the front end with its pointy blue ceiling (an interesting choice for sure) before we head out of this nicely renovated Ideal...

  1. I agree, the exterior renovation was both needed and turned out very nicely! The new floors and all inside looks nice too, but yeah, that décor is... not the best...

    1. Yep, for sure. I wonder who designed these stores, which were independently owned and probably predate most of the design firms that are doing the stores now. Clearly what's on the walls here was a whole decor package, not just a hodgepodge of secondhand stuff. I'll have to look into that more!
