An extremely lucky find here while attempting to make a U-turn after taking the wrong turn while making a coronavirus-induced emergency trip from Massachusetts home to New Jersey. As soon as I spotted that roofline, I knew I had to stop. This incredible store was originally a Mott's Supermarket and later a Mott's ShopRite, before being converted into Wakefern's discount banner, Price Rite. It's smaller than most ShopRites at 28,000 square feet. You can read lots more and see more exterior pictures over on Styertowne's Flickr over here.
Produce and seafood are in an expansion to the left of the original store, which Styertowne reports was originally a pizzeria. There is a doorway from the expansion to the main store at the back.
Drop Zone, or sale items, take up most of the first aisle in the original store. Look at that wood ceiling!
Because of the perspective, it's very difficult to capture just how cool the roof is in person. You can get an idea here.
Windows along the right-side wall of the store. Styertowne reports that this was originally the first aisle.
Quick look along the front-end towards the Drop Zone. Produce is on the other side of the wall we see straight ahead. It occurs to me writing this that we haven't actually been to a Price Rite before on The Market Report, so this gives you a little bit of an introduction if you're not familiar with the chain. I have five Price Rite tours coming up eventually, so we'll be seeing more! Up next we're staying in the same region for more Wakefern stores. (Those posts will be at noon today!)

  1. Interesting, and just the opposite of what is usually seen in an older Shoprite (that being the Quonset style rounded roof) - almost like they turned that roof upside down!

    1. Exactly! I think today this store is one of a kind, but if I remember correctly there were previously others like it.
