Sights & Scenes: South & West of Boston

Moving from the Worcester County area east, we find ourselves in the towns south and west of Boston. This isn't an area I've spent nearly as much time in compared to Boston or Worcester, or even northeastern Mass, so I don't have a lot of pictures to show you. But it's still fun to take a look at the areas outside of their supermarkets!

Framingham & MetroWest

Natick, MA has a fun, busy downtown with a great arts scene including a lot of public and street art, such as this woman taking her fish for a walk in an alley. It's also home to a performing arts center, The Center for Arts in Natick, with music and other performances in a small converted firehouse.

Southeastern MA

Westport Point, MA - There's no shortage of places to get great seafood in Massachusetts, but I must say that the meal I had at The Back Eddy in Westport Point was exceptional. Here's a look at the lobster roll and a swordfish steak. And don't miss Lees Market just up the road.
Also in Westport is Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, a stunning waterfront nature preserve with hiking trails and boardwalks.

Brockton

Brockton, MA - We begin our trip the way all good city visits should start -- with pizza. Specifically, the pepperoni pizza from stalwart pizzeria Cape Cod Cafe, which also sells frozen pizzas in grocery stores. This is a South Shore bar pie, which Cape Cod Cafe claims to have invented here in Brockton in 1939. I didn't find most of Brockton to be particularly photogenic, but here's a few shots from the downtown.

Braintree & Quincy

Quincy, MA - Quincy (pronounced "quin-zee") is notable in the supermarket world because it's home to the headquarters of Stop & Shop, just outside downtown. It's also home to the original Dunkin' Donuts...

Brookline

Brookline, MA is one of my favorite Boston suburbs, with some exceptionally beautiful architecture. The picture above to the left is just an apartment building, but on the right is the Metropolitan Water Works, once a pump house for the city of Boston and now a museum across the street from the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. This was part of the United States' first city water system here in Boston.
The nearby reservoir, and the neighborhoods surrounding it, are also beautiful.

Chestnut Hill - Needham - Newton

Unfortunately, I don't have any more pictures to share from this group. But you can click on the link above to go back and revisit the stores in this area!
That's all for today, and tomorrow we enter the actual city of Boston!
