Super Supermarket has been hard at work lately! The small chain has made a couple of changes, including selling their Asbury Park location to City Supermarkets, another local chain, and renovating their remaining three stores in Haledon, Orange, and Paterson. You can see the updates to Haledon at that link, and now let's take a look at Orange and Paterson!
Worth noting that there are additional stores called Super Supermarket in Newark, Elizabeth, and West New York. Although Elizabeth and WNY appear to be under the same ownership, none of those three are related to the Orange, Paterson, and Haledon locations. In the past, there have also been Super Supermarket locations at 200 Broadway and 160 W Broadway in Paterson, 426 33rd St in Union City, and 218 Dayton Ave in Clifton, but it's unclear whether any of them are actually related to each other.
I first visited this store in 2018, so that's when our "before" pictures are from. Since then, the owners have made a lot of upgrades over time. In 2025, they seemed to undertake a renovation project for real, which we saw in progress here. (At that time, I didn't realize the renovation wasn't done.)
This store has certainly come a long way since 2013. Gone are the days of burnt-out neon.
This decor is similar to the decor in Haledon and Paterson, but not identical to either one. Still, it's nice to see that all three stores have been redone at around the same time.
I really like this new produce signage. The various textures are interesting and eye-catching, and if you look carefully, these are actually angled, three-dimensional panels -- not just wallpaper.
Packaged meats are in the back-left corner with the service deli, butcher, and seafood counters on the back wall.
I'm seeing some wiring around this cold cuts sign, so I do wonder if it'll eventually be lit up. I'll have to get back and check.
Again, we see that the decor goes beyond the wallpaper. As big chains get cheaper with their decor, it's nice to see some independents committing to more thorough renovations.
The service counters line the back wall.
Now with custom three-dimensional signage, again. I particularly like the way the wood paneling runs under the wall here.
Notice the wiring hanging down from the letters here, which makes me think they probably eventually will be lit up.
And the deli design comes back for seafood on the right side. All of these fixtures have also been replaced.
The grocery aisles have gotten new shelving, though of course they looked fine before too.
This is an exceptionally well-stocked store. Check out that cereal! As I've mentioned on past posts, this is a fairly small store at a bit over 20,000 square feet, but it's the largest in Orange.
The freezers haven't been replaced.
It's hard to get a good look at some of this decor because of the simple fact that the store is small and there's a lot here.
The Great Wall of Values in the front-right corner is now an expansion of the frozen department.
Big fan of this signage, too!
And the front-end is newly brightened up with new lighting and some new signage.
When I visited, pretty much the only thing not yet done was listing the items on the aisle markers.
Now let's head north to Paterson, to revisit the newly renovated Super location there!

My original visit was so limited that it's barely even worth including those pictures, but you can see that this 30,000 square foot supermarket is still rather new. It was built from the ground up in 2013.
It definitely didn't look or feel dated, but some new decor has really made it look particularly modern.
This is a tough store because, even though it's larger, it's still rather cramped. It's very hard to get good pictures that show the whole produce department, for instance.
But we can see that it's very attractive nonetheless. Produce is on the left side of the store with baked goods and deli/hot food in an island. Packaged meats are in the back-left corner, with service butcher and seafood counters on the back wall. Dairy and frozen are on the right side.
This isn't the biggest supermarket in Paterson -- not even the biggest in downtown Paterson -- but it's on the larger side, as Paterson is a pretty big city and doesn't have a lot of space.
A little cafe with hot food and other items at the back of the produce department. This seems to also function as the store's deli, as I don't remember seeing another deli counter.
Packaged meats on the back wall. Again, I love this decor and it's a great way to freshen up the space.
Notice that this is almost the same sign as what's in Orange.
Not much work happened in the grocery aisles, but there wasn't really much to do.
Love this signage, too!
Dairy lines the last aisle with frozen in the second-to-last aisle.
Maintenance here has clearly been great, as this store still looks a lot more like a brand-new supermarket than one that's quickly approaching 15 years old.
Looking across the front-end.
It's nice to see these independent stores doing some real renovation work in their locations! Don't miss the rest of this weekend's posts...
