Before we begin, just a heads up: this was originally posted in April 2020, but was rewritten with new photos in July 2026. Now for the post! We've seen this store before! Kind of. I've returned for a full store tour, and it was worth it! This 50,000 square foot former Pathmark opened in late 2018 after extensive renovations -- extensive enough that I don't really know how the Pathmark was set up. Limited pictures online show that it was a pretty standard, old-school looking Pathmark. There was a significant delay in this store's opening compared to the other acquired locations because of a legal dispute here. (Another bidder was a broker representing independent grocer Francisco Jin, who wanted both this store and the North Bergen location. Though that one was quickly sorted out, this one was more complicated.)

My best guess is that Food Bazaar's double-wide meat aisle and display of bulk and sale items, straight ahead when you walk in, are probably where Pathmark's produce was. Food Bazaar's produce is on the right side, probably taking up Pathmark's pharmacy and nonfoods areas. Service seafood and meat counters are at the back, with deli-bakery on the back wall. Dairy, frozen, and beer are on the left side, and that's all probably similar to Pathmark's former setup.

This was the first Food Bazaar to use this decor package, which is now the standard (although it's evolved slightly over the years).

It doesn't look like there's an in-store bakery here, which surprises me given the size of this store. The two other nearest Food Bazaars, in Brownsville and East New York, do have in-store bakeries.

I didn't spot many fixtures (or, well, much of anything) left over from Pathmark, though there's a case or two in the deli that might be left over. As you can see, though, everything else is new. Here's another limited glimpse inside Pathmark on this end of the store.

The beer department and front-end get special decor attention, and the trellis (is that what you'd call it?) over the registers works well with Pathmark's skylights at the front.

It's nice to seee how this store has worked in a few Pathmark leftovers while building a really brand new supermarket.
