We're back here in Worcester for a look at the city's newest Market 32, which switched from Price Chopper in October. Work continues to be ongoing at the store, so let's check in and see what's happening.
A disclaimer: these pictures were actually taken about two weeks ago -- I've been behind in posting -- so I'm sure more work has been done since. But the produce department is looking fresh with new fixtures, paint, and lighting. I'm a big fan of the track lighting here, which I think almost always elevates a supermarket's appearance. I'm not so crazy about the fact that the ceiling appears to have already been painted, then had the recessed lighting removed. I imagine Market 32 will paint the mismatched ceiling tiles before the store is done.
And it's starting to look a lot more like a Market 32 than the tired Price Chopper that this space used to house.
There's still plenty of work to be done, including the decor. I am very curious to see what this decor ends up looking like, especially since the ceiling here is much lower than in most Market 32 stores with the full-fledged decor.
This looks like a new seafood case ready to go in, and you can see the older seafood case behind it. You can also get a sense of the ceiling painting work here.
The grocery aisles have gotten their tile flooring removed, but I'm not sure if there'll be more work done here eventually -- for instance, replacing the grocery shelves.
New butcher counter looking very good.
Basically, I took these pictures about three weeks after my first round, so it makes sense there hasn't been a dramatic change. I won't be able to get back to Worcester for a while, so the next update we get here might be more significant.
It looks like there's some new track lighting soon to go in on the back wall here, probably highlighting the specialty products (see here as an example in the very deluxe Sutton store).
The freezers haven't been replaced yet, but I imagine they'll have to be.
And it wouldn't surprise me if eventually this recessed fluorescent lighting is replaced, but here in the last aisle it does look like there's track lighting going right over the existing lighting:
The bakery hasn't gotten a whole lot of work yet, but it's clear there's some things going on behind the scenes.
I'm really intrigued to see how this store comes out, especially given that there haven't been that many Market 32 conversions or remodels lately. I'll be back when I can, and in the meantime, there's plenty more to see this weekend!

  1. Would expect that the shelves would be changed, since they tend to do more of the black color scheme in the stores (unless they have gotten really cheap ;). And that is the new style seafood case - allows for service from the top section with the bottom holding pre-packed items be that done in store (like fish on a tray) or premade (like the oyster containers they have around the holidays).
