Golden Farms Supermarket
Opened: March 20, 2026Credit where credit is due: When I first visited Hempstead's new Golden Farms, I have to say I was not impressed. The store seemed particularly messy, even for a soft opening. But in the weeks between that soft opening and the more recent official grand opening, the store is sharper, and really looks ready to go. That's right down to the department signs, which were very much not completed for the soft opening...
Look, they even have all their letters now!
It's not unusual for independent supermarkets to do soft openings, and sometimes that's because they need to begin to make money before finishing the last elements. Other times, it's to gauge response to what they've done so far, so that they can adjust as necessary. Sometimes it's simply because it's "close enough" and the details can be worked out later. By all indications, they've adjusted everything they need to here, and the store is fully set up now. It was busier when I visited this time, too.

Here, we can see the finished seafood and butcher signs, with all their letters, and the TV screens below the lettering itself.
The seafood counter also now wraps around the corner, where whole fish face the meat department.
This isn't a large store, but they've made an effort to fill it with as much as possible with the high shelving.
As you can see, there's a lot here. It doesn't feel particularly spacious because there are a lot of displays, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Beer is also now in, which is generally not able to be sold at the very beginning (although local laws vary, many require the business to be operating to give them a license to sell beer if they are not specifically a beverage distributor).
Dairy in the last two aisles...
The deli/bakery are also ready to go now, although I'm not sure whether they're baking in-store. There are fresh breads and rolls/bagels that may or may not be made in store, and a selection of baked goods in a service bakery counter.
And the front-end now thanks us for shopping instead of sopping, a definite improvement.

It's good to see this store getting some finishing touches, even if it was after opening. Don't miss the rest of this weekend's posts here!

Unless, of course, one happens to go there on a day with a heavy precipitation event, then one may be shopping AND sopping at the same time ;)
