Returning to the Livingston ShopRite, we see the remodel continues to progress. We're gonna start this post with some pictures from late March and then some updated ones from this week.
This store has been making incremental changes for a very long time now, but they're finally coming together and truthfully this store looks great. Let's see a few more progress pics...
What I wasn't expecting is that all of the decor has actually been stripped and replaced. Among the other changes: The bakery is now kosher, so when I visited yesterday, they were still in the process of resetting it.
I wasn't expecting the full remodel here since this store has gotten a lot of partial updates over the years. It's really nice to see the store getting a full redo, and it really looks good. Honestly, it wasn't looking so bad before. Here in produce, we have older decor with newer fixtures...
An odd observation: Remember the weird removal of the Fairway and Gourmet Garage brands, which turned out to be related to a lawsuit between Village and Wakefern? Well, these cheese tags had their Fairway branding cut out of them... but this store never had a Fairway-branded cheese department.
Some updates to the decor on the back wall, too.
The aisles were shortened slightly in the remodel, and new aisle markers went in.
New milk signage!
But it was annoying me that this flooring, from several generations of decor ago, remained in most of the store. Well, I have good news for you all.
The self-checkouts were changed to be in a single row instead of a few clusters, and a new wall was being built around it.
Now, let's check out the newly renovated store as it approaches completion! Right away, you can see all the decor has been updated, and it looks great.
The bakery was still being reset after switching to kosher...
I love this new signage! Also, check out the various Village signs. Remember that Watchung and Old Bridge had Village ShopRite signs that were yanked out? Here, it's phrases like Village Bakery or Village Livingston, avoiding the Wakefern brands altogether. There are a handful of ShopRite signs on their own in this store, though, something that other Village stores don't generally have at all.
Reorganized self checkouts at the side entrance, with some ShopRite signage visible.
And Fairway cheese is swapped out for Livingston Cheese here...
This new decor looks great and is a really good upgrade. I'm happy and impressed that this store got the real deal and not just a little repaint here and there.
Faux-neon signage in the butcher department looks good, too!
The grand aisle has had polished concrete flooring for a few years now, but now the flooring in the rest of the store has been replaced (except the aisles themselves)...
Looking really good! It's especially nice over in frozen foods, where all the cases are brand-new. (Frozen did get new flooring, but most aisles didn't.)
And new Village Livingston signage in dairy in the last aisle!
The kosher deli and kosher food area in the front of the store, which was the first sign of a remodel here when it was installed a couple months ago...
I'm really pleased with how this store turned out. You can see that, although it doesn't look brand new, the appearance is seriously updated with new flooring and decor. This doesn't look like a 1960s-era supermarket at all.
And the nice signage continues throughout the store, including onto the front wall...
Here's a look at the completed self-checkout area, along with new signage at the exit and new flooring.
This is great -- a really good example of how a retailer can remodel a store without completely reinventing it but giving it a modern, fresh look. And it looks like they're just about done, but I'll be back if any work continues here! Plus...
