Stop & Shop
This store is relatively new, as we can see, and was constructed between 2005 and 2008 replacing an older store in the same mall. Also previously in the mall was a large Asian supermarket, originally a Super 88 (or see here) and later a Kam Man before a dispute with the mall owner forced the store's closure.
The store's grand aisle is on the left side, with a Dunkin' Donuts, bakery, and deli/prepared foods lining the left side. Produce is opposite. Meat/seafood and dairy are on the back wall. HABA, the rest of dairy, frozen, and natural foods are on the right side with pharmacy in the front-right corner.
This store presumably opened with the Taste & Time decor package, and was probably renovated around 2015 to this decor package. It was renovated again to the white and gray decor package around 2021.
This store feels very similar to Howell, which is logical because it opened right around the same time. This store is just a bit larger than Howell, though, at around 76,000 square feet. It's the largest supermarket in Boston.
The flooring here is a little different, and I don't know whether it was original to the store or installed in the ca. 2015 remodel. This store seems to be high-volume and well taken care of, so it's gotten a lot of investment over the years. The white/gray decor, though, is a bit of a step down from this decor.
A look across the back wall.
I really like the skylights here, and they're a good feature that these mid- to late-00s build stores have.
These frozen foods signs, which I have to assume are gone now, were left over from the prior decor. You can see similar category signs here.
As usual, these big stores have expanded nonfoods selections. Typically, this is all taken out (or at least streamlined) in the remodels, but I don't know what happened here.
Looking back over towards the grand aisle on the back wall...
I really do like this deluxe HABA signage.
As usual, the HABA aisles are a bit lower and divided in the middle. The pharmacy is at the front.
Natural foods in the front half of the last aisle, with the rest of the department in the front-right corner next to pharmacy.
In older-model stores, this is the area where the bakery would be.
Marty says hello!
Here's an overview of the front-right corner, with natural foods (see the green wall), pharmacy (blue panels), and floral.
And a look across the front-end...
And here's an overview of the large store, which is at the western end of the South Bay Center.
Opened: between 2005 and 2008 replacing older store in mall
Today's store is not technically in Roxbury, but actually in the far northern part of Dorchester. Still, it's where the two neighborhoods come together in the South Bay Center, a large mall between Roxbury/Dorchester and South Boston. We're about 2/3 of a mile north of the Brother's Supermarket on Dudley Street. Owner: Ahold Delhaize
Previous Tenants: none
Cooperative: none
Location: 1100 Massachusetts Ave, Dorchester, MA
Photographed: July 27, 2019

That's all for this Stop & Shop, and next week we're going to see a few independent grocers in Roxbury!
I’m guessing the signage got replaced to the 2019 logo when the renovation happened in 2021.
